Diamond Peak opened in the mid-1960s and has been run by the Incline Village General Improvement District for decades, which is why it feels like a town ski hill rather than a corporate resort. It is not on the Epic or Ikon Pass. Instead it sells its own season passes, multi-day flex passes and reloadable lift tickets, and the 60th-anniversary season brings special events. The Snowflake Lodge, renovated and expanded in 2002, is the mid-mountain landmark, and planning for its eventual replacement has begun. Expect it to stay in use for now, and check the resort site for any construction notices.
How to do it well: take the Crystal Express to the ridge on a clear morning, when the light on the lake is best and the run is freshly groomed, then stop at Snowflake Lodge for the view before lunch crowds arrive. Families should book lessons ahead on holiday weeks and stay on the lower mountain's gentle terrain until kids are ready for the ridge. Advanced skiers can spend an hour in the summit trees, then go explore elsewhere. The base is a short drive from most Incline Village hotels and condos, and the free parking is close to the lodge.
Practicals and fit: in Incline Village on the Nevada side of the North Shore, about 45 minutes from Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Independent tickets and passes, not Epic or Ikon. Best for families, beginners, intermediates and photographers. Experts can do it in a morning and then head to Mt. Rose's Chutes about 20 minutes up the road.

Why is Diamond Peak known for its views?
Its Crystal Ridge run follows a ridgeline that points straight at the lake, so Lake Tahoe fills the view for the whole descent. The deck at mid-mountain Snowflake Lodge has the same view.
Is Diamond Peak on the Epic or Ikon Pass?
Neither. The resort is owned by the Incline Village community and sells its own lift tickets, flex passes and season passes.
Is it good for beginners?
Yes. The base area is compact, there is a dedicated beginner zone and ski school, and the crowds are lighter than at the big resorts.
How big is it?
About 655 skiable acres with 1,840 feet of vertical and a summit at 8,540 feet. That is small by Tahoe standards, but it is enough for a relaxed day.
When does it open for 2026-27?
The resort is targeting December 3, 2026, conditions permitting, for its 60th-anniversary season.
